Zastava Arms, traditionally associated with manufacturing modernized versions of classic Communist Bloc firearms, is pushing technological boundaries with their latest offering. While their booth at SHOT Show featured their well-known updated AK platforms and the much-anticipated RPK, it was their new VUK suppressor that caught many by surprise - a specialized silencer designed specifically for 7.62x39mm applications.
This revolutionary suppressor leverages an advanced manufacturing technique called Purposely Induced Porosity (PIP). At its core, the VUK features a sophisticated 3D-printed titanium framework filled with metallic foam material. This innovative approach creates multiple pathways for gas dispersion, achieving an impressive 32 dB sound reduction. The porous structure serves multiple functions - it effectively manages heat dissipation, minimizes back pressure, and enhances overall weapon reliability.
What sets the VUK apart is its thoughtful engineering for the AK platform. While primarily optimized for 7.62x39mm, it's also compatible with smaller calibers of similar case capacity. The suppressor's construction reflects careful attention to practical considerations - it features a textured exterior for improved handling and a high-temperature Cerakote finish for durability.
The physical specifications are equally impressive. The VUK measures 8.3 inches in length and features a tapered design, with the muzzle end measuring 1.93 inches in diameter, narrowing to 1.6 inches at the opposite end. Despite its robust construction and full-auto rating, the suppressor maintains a remarkably light weight of just 13.4 ounces, thanks to its advanced materials and manufacturing process.
This development represents a significant step forward in suppressor technology, particularly for the AK platform, demonstrating Zastava's commitment to combining traditional firearm heritage with cutting-edge innovation.
