During our visit to the Winchester booth at SHOT Show 2025 in Las Vegas, we got an exclusive first look at their groundbreaking entry into the thermal optics market. The bustling booth showcased three impressive new models that mark Winchester's bold expansion into advanced hunting technology.
The new thermal lineup consists of the premium TSHX 640 and two 384-series options, the TSHX 384 and THSD 384. Each device incorporates state-of-the-art VOx sensor technology, delivering exceptional image quality through a crisp SXGA 1280x1024 display. What immediately caught our attention was the impressive 50Hz refresh rate, ensuring smooth target tracking, while the IP67 rating provides confidence for all-weather reliability.
At the heart of these optics lies advanced 12μm pixel sensor technology, which Winchester has leveraged to achieve both superior image clarity and impressive power efficiency. During our hands-on time with the flagship TSHX 640, its 50mm objective lens demonstrated remarkable capability, while its siblings, the TSHX 384 and THSD 384, feature 35mm objective lenses that balance performance with portability.
The standout TSHX 640 particularly impressed us with its versatile 1-8x digital zoom range and extraordinary 1,865-meter detection capability. Powered by dual 18650 batteries, Winchester claims up to 10 hours of operation under normal use. The unit's robust construction is rated to handle the substantial recoil of a .300 Win Mag, demonstrating Winchester's commitment to durability.
Weighing just 1.5 pounds and measuring 290mm x 243mm x 110mm, the TSHX 640 feels substantial yet manageable. While testing the optic on the show floor didn't fully showcase its long-range capabilities, the display's clarity and multiple color palette options were immediately apparent, even in the well-lit convention center environment.
For hunters and outdoor enthusiasts considering these new offerings, Winchester has positioned each model at distinct price points:
The flagship TSHX 640 Thermal Hunting Sight leads the lineup at $2,499, featuring a high-resolution 640x512 VOx sensor, 50mm objective lens, and an impressive 1,865-meter detection range. The unit weighs 720 grams and maintains the .300 Win Mag recoil rating shared across the line.
The more accessible THSX 384 Thermal Hunting Sight comes in at $1,649, utilizing a 384x288 VOx sensor and 35mm objective lens, with a detection range of 1,150 meters and a weight of 680 grams.
Rounding out the collection, the THSD 384 Thermal Hunting Scope is priced at $1,899, sharing the same sensor specifications and objective lens as the THSX 384, but in a slightly heavier 800-gram package that offers additional features suited for dedicated hunting applications.
Winchester's entry into the thermal optics market demonstrates their commitment to expanding beyond traditional optics, bringing advanced thermal imaging technology to hunters at competitive price points.
