WhisperTech Unveiled Revolutionary Suppressor Technology at SHOT Show 2025

We like to do recaps of stuff that we didn't have time to address during our live coverage of Shot Show 2025, BlackBasin Outdoors had the opportunity to speak with Roy Couvillion, representing WhisperTech at the Bersa booth. Couvillion introduced a groundbreaking advancement in firearm suppression technology that marks a significant departure from traditional methods.
Breaking Away From Century-Old Technology
According to Couvillion, all firearms suppressors since 1902 have utilized the Maxim method of suppression. WhisperTech's new technology takes a fundamentally different approach. Rather than keeping unburnt propellant solids suspended, their suppressors actually separate solids from gases. This separation allows gases to flow out while the solids convert to gas before joining the flow.
The result? A much smaller, field-service suppressor with impressive performance capabilities.
Impressive Performance Specifications
The WhisperTech suppressors showcased at SHOT Show 2025 demonstrated remarkable noise reduction capabilities:
- Their 5.56 model is hearing safe even on a 7-inch AR-15 barrel
- Their .22 caliber suppressor is hearing safe on a 16-inch AR-15
Durable Construction
When asked about materials, Couvillion explained that the suppressors are constructed from:
- 17-4 stainless steel
- Heat treated to condition 1150
- Finished with Salt Bath Nitride (QPQ) coating
Usage Ratings
WhisperTech's suppressors come with different ratings for automatic fire:
- The 5.56 suppressor is fully rated for full-auto firing
- The .22 suppressor is full-auto rated for .22 caliber, but while it can be used with 5.56 ammunition, it's not rated for full-auto fire with that caliber
Perhaps most impressively, the 5.56 model has no barrel length restrictions and maintains hearing-safe operation even with barrels as short as 7 inches.
A Promising Future for Suppressor Technology
WhisperTech's innovative approach to firearm suppression represents the first major technological shift in the field in over a century. By fundamentally changing how suppressors manage gas and solid propellant components, they've created more compact, effective solutions for shooters.
The partnership with Bersa to showcase this technology at SHOT Show 2025 suggests we may see these suppressors reaching the market soon, potentially changing expectations for what modern suppressors can achieve in terms of size, weight, and performance.
BlackBasin Outdoors will continue to follow the development of this exciting new suppression technology as it moves toward commercial availability.
