Springfield Armory Unveils Coyote Brown Edition of 1911 DS Prodigy Comp Pistols

Springfield Armory has expanded its popular 1911 DS Prodigy lineup with the introduction of new Coyote Brown Cerakote variants. These integrally compensated 9mm pistols, available in both 5" and 4.25" barrel configurations, blend traditional 1911 ergonomics with modern double-stack capacity for enhanced performance.

The new models feature a premium Coyote Brown Cerakote finish on both slide and frame, paired with a matching Coyote Brown polymer grip module. This aesthetic is complemented by contrasting black controls and a black diamond-like carbon (DLC) coated match grade bull barrel, creating a distinctive two-tone appearance.

Cerakote technology provides significant functional benefits beyond mere aesthetics. This advanced coating virtually eliminates the need for exterior oiling to prevent corrosion, significantly enhancing both durability and ease of maintenance over traditional finishes.

Performance is enhanced through the pistols' integrated compensator design, which incorporates a single port atop the hammer-forged slide and barrel assembly. This engineering redirects gases upward during firing, effectively minimizing muzzle rise and felt recoil for improved shot-to-shot recovery and target reacquisition. A tritium front sight positioned behind the compensator aids in low-light shooting scenarios.

These models maintain the Prodigy's signature double-stack configuration built around a polymer grip module attached to a forged steel frame. Magazine capacity stands at 17+1 rounds with flush-fitting magazines and 20+1 with extended magazines (10-round variants are available for jurisdictions with capacity restrictions).

For optics compatibility, the slides feature the Agency Optic System (AOS) mounting interface. These precision-machined billet steel plates provide optimal sight height for intuitive target acquisition and incorporate an integral rear sight. Each pistol ships with a HEX Dragonfly compatible plate and cover plate, with additional optic-specific plates available separately.

Both the 5" and 4.25" models include two magazines—one 17-round flush fit and one 20-round extended—with optional 26-round magazines available separately. All variants carry an MSRP of $1,649, including the 10-round models designed for restricted jurisdictions.
