Smith & Wesson has unveiled an exciting expansion to their Model 1854 lever-action rifle series with two new variants chambered in the powerful .45-70 Government cartridge. This addition complements the existing lineup that includes .44 Remington Magnum, .45 Colt, and .357 Magnum chamberings.

The Model 1854 successfully marries traditional lever-action aesthetics with contemporary features designed for today's hunters and shooting enthusiasts. Built around a forged 416 stainless steel receiver, the rifle features a 20-inch 410 stainless steel barrel with a 1:20 right-hand twist. The barrel comes threaded (11/16-24 pattern) with an included thread protector, allowing for the addition of a suppressor for those seeking a quieter shooting experience.
A distinguishing feature of the Model 1854 is its oversized loop lever, providing enhanced gripping surface for smooth operation in all conditions, particularly when wearing gloves. This is complemented by a crisp, flat-faced trigger designed for precise shot control and rapid follow-up shots.

For the substantial recoil expected from the potent .45-70 Government round, shooters might want to prepare accordingly, especially during extended range sessions. The rifle offers a 6+1 capacity through its fixed magazine tube.
Sighting options include a factory-installed 5.75-inch Picatinny rail for mounting optics, paired with an adjustable ghost ring rear sight and gold bead front sight manufactured by XS Sights. For additional safety, the Model 1854 incorporates a cross-bolt manual safety mechanism.

Smith & Wesson is offering two distinct versions of the .45-70 Model 1854. The first features full stainless steel construction with a black synthetic stock that includes textured grip areas and a matching forend with three M-LOK attachment points. The second version provides a more traditional appearance with warm walnut furniture.
The stainless steel model with synthetic furniture is priced at $1,399 MSRP, while the walnut-stocked version carries a slightly higher price tag of $1,499 MSRP.
