SHOT Show 2026: OpticGard Brings Functional Optic Protection to the Next Level

Author: | Publish Date: Mar 17, 2026 | Fact checked by: Marko Lalovic

At SHOT Show 2026, we stopped by OpticGard to check out a product category that’s often overlooked—but incredibly practical: optic protection that you can actually use while shooting.

Unlike traditional covers that need to be removed before use, OpticGard is focused on active-use optic covers, combining durability, training utility, and real-world performance enhancements.

Built for Use, Not Just Storage

OpticGard covers are made from injection-molded TPU, similar to the material used in phone cases. This provides:

  • Impact resistance

  • Flexibility

  • Secure fit without additional hardware

The covers simply snap onto the optic, with no screws or external retention systems required. Each model is designed specifically for a given optic, ensuring a tight and reliable fit.

Some models also include drain holes, helping prevent moisture buildup in harsh conditions.

Training-Ready: Occlusion Shooting Support

One of the standout features is the ability to use OpticGard covers for occlusion training.

By using interchangeable lens covers, shooters can:

  • Practice shooting with both eyes open

  • Train target focus and dot acquisition

  • Simulate occluded optic scenarios

The training cover can be swapped out quickly, allowing shooters to move between training and standard configurations without removing the entire system.

HexGard (GlareGard): Solving a Real Problem

OpticGard also introduced its HexGard (GlareGard) system, designed to reduce glare and improve dot visibility in bright conditions.

If you’ve ever struggled to see your red dot in harsh sunlight—especially during afternoon shooting—this add-on helps:

  • Reduce incoming glare

  • Improve contrast

  • Maintain dot visibility

The GlareGard is sold separately, so users can add it only if needed.

Wide Compatibility Across Popular Optics

OpticGard already supports a wide range of popular optics, including:

They’re also actively developing new models for optics released at SHOT Show 2026, showing a strong commitment to keeping up with the latest gear.

Customization & New Finishes

Beyond function, OpticGard offers a wide range of customization options:

  • Multiple color choices

  • Camouflage patterns

  • Updated carbon fiber finish

  • New wood-tone green option for matching classic firearm aesthetics

This allows shooters to match their optic covers with Cerakote finishes, builds, or personal style preferences.

Final Thoughts

OpticGard is tackling a simple but important problem—protecting optics without sacrificing usability. By combining durable materials, training functionality, and glare reduction, their products go beyond basic covers and become part of the shooting system itself.

At SHOT Show 2026, it’s clear that even smaller accessories are getting smarter—and OpticGard is a perfect example of that trend.
