Groundbreaking Nickel-Alloy Cartridge Achieves Perfect Score in Defense Testing
Shell Shock Technologies' revolutionary 7.62x51 mm NAS3 (Nickel-Alloy Shell) cartridge cases have emerged victorious from extensive evaluation at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division. The results were remarkable: zero case failures when subjected to the military's most demanding testing protocols.
Technical Performance Details
The evaluation centered on a 155-grain bullet configuration, tested at pressure levels of 50,000 p.s.i. and achieving velocities of 3,000 feet per second. These cartridges underwent extreme stress testing in belt-fed automatic weapons systems, specifically the 240 Bravo and Minigun platforms.
What makes this achievement particularly noteworthy is the cartridges' performance during rapid-fire sequences and forceful ejection cycles. The testing regimen included performance evaluation across a dramatic temperature range:
- Ambient temperature conditions
- Extreme cold (-40 degrees Fahrenheit)
- Extreme heat (+160 degrees Fahrenheit)
In every scenario, the NAS3 cases met or surpassed all pressure and velocity requirements.
Executive Perspective on Testing Success
"This milestone underscores the durability, consistency and tactical advantages of our NAS3 case technology," said Peter Foss, managing director and CEO of SST. "Zero case failures in such unforgiving conditions is not just a win for us—it's a validation for every warfighter and defense partner looking for lighter, faster and more accurate ammunition."
Expanding Caliber Portfolio
The successful 7.62x51 mm testing represents the latest addition to Shell Shock's growing lineup of rifle caliber NAS3 cases, which currently includes:
Future Development Pipeline
The company reports promising preliminary results from .338 Lapua testing. Additionally, Shell Shock is ahead of their projected schedule with initial test samples for the .338 Norma caliber, while tooling development for .50 BMG is currently in progress.
Civilian enthusiasts can expect the 7.62x51 mm cases to become available for commercial purchase this summer.
Consumer Availability and Company Background
In December 2024, SST expanded its consumer outreach by launching a factory-direct outlet. Beyond rifle cartridges, the company offers handgun ammunition options including:
- .380 ACP
- 9 mm Luger
Technological Advantages
The company's innovative two-piece NAS3 cartridge case design delivers multiple performance benefits, most notably reduced weight and enhanced velocity compared to traditional brass cases.
Shell Shock Technologies, established in 2015, maintains its headquarters in Eubank, Kentucky, with manufacturing operations based in Calhoun, Georgia.
