Ruger's Enhanced Precision Platform for 2025: A New Era for Competition Shooters

Nick Miles | Dec 23, 2024

The evolution of Ruger's premier long-range platform continues with the expanded Ruger Precision Rifle (RPR) lineup, now offering shooters six distinct caliber options. The standard lineup features three competition-focused chamberings - 6mm Creedmoor6.5 Creedmoor, and .308 Winchester - complemented by three magnum offerings: .300 Winchester Magnum.300 PRC, and .338 Lapua Magnum.

The refinement of the platform benefited significantly from input by Doug Koenig, whose recent victory at the 2024 Hornady Precision Rifle Challenge in the Production Division showcases the rifle's competitive potential. "We focused on combining the RPR's reliability and precision with more adjustability to fit every shooter," Koenig explained, emphasizing the rifle's adaptability. "Knowing I can fine-tune my rifle to fit my exact needs means I head into every match with confidence. This rifle is designed to support competitive shooters at the highest level."

At the heart of the platform's enhancement is an innovative buttstock design, engineered for rapid customization across multiple axes - length of pull, cheek rest height and horizontal position, and butt pad height.

The rifle's core features have been elevated with a cold hammer-forged heavy-contour barrel, enhanced muzzle brake design, and ergonomic Magpul MOE-K2 vertical grip. The bolt's DLC coating ensures fluid operation, while the aluminum handguard incorporates both M-LOK slots and an ARCA rail, maximizing mounting options for accessories. A distinctive Smoked Bronze Cerakote finish adorns the magazine well, handguard, and stock body.

Precision enthusiasts seeking additional refinement can opt for the Custom Shop variants, available in 6.5 Creedmoor, 6mm Creedmoor, and 6mm GT. These specialized models incorporate a TriggerTech Two-Stage Trigger system, known for its precise break, minimal overtravel, and quick reset characteristics. The Custom Shop editions feature stainless steel heavy-contour barrels, integrated muzzle brakes, and practical additions like a barricade stop on the magazine well. These models wear a distinguished gray Cerakote finish across their major components.

The comprehensive updates to the RPR platform demonstrate Ruger's commitment to serving precision shooters across skill levels, from competition veterans to long-range enthusiasts. The modular nature of these improvements offers current RPR owners, including those with existing models like the .308 Winchester variant, the opportunity to enhance their rifles with select new features, ensuring continued evolution of their precision shooting platform.
