Mossberg Introduces 590M Standoff & 500 Slugster Pump Shotgun Series

The legendary Mossberg 500, one of the most iconic pump-action shotguns in history, continues to evolve with two innovative 2025 releases: the tactical 590M Standoff and the hunting-focused 500 Slugster lineup.

The Mossberg 590M Standoff merges the compact design elements of the Shockwave series with the detachable magazine functionality of the 590 platform. This 12-gauge powerhouse accepts 2¾-inch shells and incorporates all signature 590 features including heavy-walled barrel construction, dual extractors, steel-to-steel lockup, top-mounted ambidextrous safety, and twin action bars. The shotgun utilizes quick-change box magazines with 5, 10, 15, or 20-round capacity options, released via a push-button mechanism positioned forward of the trigger guard. Each unit ships with one 10-round magazine.

Several key distinctions separate the Standoff from its predecessor, the 590M Shockwave introduced in 2018. The Standoff sports a 14.25-inch cylinder bore barrel featuring an integral standoff muzzle device. Sight options include a standard bead front sight, while the receiver comes drilled and tapped for mounting optical accessories. Classified as a Shockwave-type firearm, the Standoff employs Mossberg's Aftershock bird's head grip designed to mitigate recoil while maintaining secure control. Its pump-action fore-end incorporates both a handstop and M-Lok slots for accessory attachment. With 27-inch overall length and 6.6-pound weight, the 590M Standoff carries an MSRP of $1,050.

For deer hunters who prefer or are required by local game regulations to use slug-loaded shotguns, Mossberg presents the purpose-built 500 Slugster series. Available in 12 gauge, 20 gauge, or .410 bore configurations, all Slugster models feature 3-inch chambers and five-round capacity via underbarrel tubular magazines. Each comes equipped with adjustable rifle-style sights (windage and elevation) and receivers drilled and tapped for mounting optics.

These practical hunting tools feature black synthetic furniture, matte blue metal finish, and integrated sling swivel studs. The 12-gauge and 20-gauge variants sport 24-inch fully rifled barrels with 1:36 twist rates. The .410 version comes with a 20-inch smoothbore cylinder barrel and "Bantam"-sized buttstock offering a shorter 13-inch length-of-pull designed for smaller-framed hunters. All three Slugster variants share a uniform MSRP of $533 regardless of gauge selection.
