South Korean firearms manufacturer SNT Motiv has made waves at SHOT Show with an announcement that's caught the attention of firearms enthusiasts - their iconic K2 rifle could be making its way to American shores.

The company, which took over from the legendary Daewoo as South Korea's primary small arms producer, is planning to introduce a civilian version of their battle-proven 5.56mm platform. The rifle has maintained a dedicated following among collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate its distinctive design.

The planned civilian model, designated as the K2S, will be a semi-automatic adaptation of the military K2. SNT Motiv is currently navigating the ATF approval process and has outlined a timeline for U.S. market entry, targeting June 2025 for initial availability, with December 2025 as their fallback date.

SNT Motiv K2S Technical Specifications

Caliber 5.56 x 45mm NATO (.223 Remington)
Operating System Gas Piston
Weight 7.5lb (3.4kg) ± 5%
Barrel Length 18.3" (465mm)
Overall Length 38.6" (980mm)

While preserving the rifle's iconic design philosophy, SNT Motiv has made necessary modifications for the civilian market. The most notable changes include the removal of select-fire capabilities and auto sear components, replacing them with an AR-15 compatible safety selector.

The K2S will feature fresh production components, including newly manufactured furniture and U.S.-made parts to meet import requirements. With an anticipated MSRP ranging from $1,200 to $1,500, the K2S could represent an attractive option for American firearm enthusiasts. If successful, this introduction might pave the way for additional offerings from SNT Motiv's portfolio in the future.
