Israel Weapon Industries (IWI) has recently expanded their product lineup with the introduction of the Mafteah, joining the growing category of "other" firearms. This new semi-automatic 12-gauge shotgun features a compact 14-inch smoothbore barrel combined with a pistol grip configuration, classifying it as an "other" firearm under United States law. This classification distinguishes it from short-barreled shotguns and any other weapons that would typically fall under National Firearms Act (NFA) regulations.
The name "Mafteah" draws inspiration from the historical "Key of Solomon," a notable text in magical literature.
The Mafteah comes equipped with several practical features, including a drilled and tapped receiver that accommodates various optics mounting options. Additionally, it features a specialized pocket designed for direct mounting of red dot sights. The handguard incorporates three MLOK slots on each side, providing versatile accessory mounting capabilities. A thoughtful safety feature includes a strap positioned at the bottom of the handguard, designed to prevent the support hand from accidentally moving in front of the muzzle during operation.
This shotgun operates on a recoil-based system, utilizing a spring surrounding the magazine tube to cycle the bolt. The magazine tube capacity accommodates five 2¾-inch shells or four 3-inch shells for those preferring heavier loads. For sighting, the Mafteah includes a traditional vent rib with a bead front sight along the barrel.
The Mafteah carries a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $999.
According to IWI's official description:
"It is said the Key of Solomon could do almost anything, contain anything or anyone, and open any passageway one might need. This one isn't quite so magical, but it will do a number on opening doors. The MAFTEAH Shotgun is a semi-automatic auto loading, shotgun, 12Ga 3'', with 14 inch barrel. It functions based on a recoil operated system that utilizes a recoil spring around the magazine tube. This allows the shotgun to be very compact and reliable."
