At NRAAM 2025, amid a flurry of suppressor innovations from competitors, Gemtech showcased a groundbreaking platform that has been under meticulous development for years. As one of the industry's pioneering suppressor manufacturers, Gemtech has leveraged its extensive expertise to address one of the most persistent challenges in suppressed shooting.
In collaboration with parent company Smith & Wesson, Gemtech has introduced a specially optimized AR platform designed specifically for suppressed operation. Built on Smith & Wesson's M&P 15 AXE lower receiver, the system features Gemtech's innovative GVAC gas management technology in the upper assembly.
The new rifle is chambered in 5.56 NATO and sports a 16-inch barrel housed within a sleek 15-inch free-floating handguard equipped with M-LOK attachment points for accessories.
What truly distinguishes this platform is the GVAC gas system—a mid-length direct impingement design engineered to rotate and diffuse excess gas during the cycling process. This addresses a fundamental issue with suppressed firearms: when suppressors contain gases to reduce sound signature, those gases frequently blow back toward the shooter's face, bringing with them unburned powder, carbon, and other debris. This creates an uncomfortable shooting environment and can irritate eyes and lungs. The GVAC system significantly reduces this gas blowback, providing a cleaner, more comfortable shooting experience.
The GVAC technology is designed to function as a universal solution for backpressure reduction, regardless of which suppressor is attached to the firearm. For shooters seeking maximum gas mitigation, pairing the GVAC system with Gemtech's own Abyss suppressor—which incorporates additional backpressure reduction features—creates an exceptionally pleasant shooting experience with minimal gas blowback.
The M&P 15 AXE GVAC carries an MSRP of $1,649 and is currently available for purchase through authorized dealers.
