Federal Expands Hydra-Shok Deep Line with .32 H&R Magnum and .45 LC Options

Federal has recently broadened its personal defense ammunition offerings by introducing two new calibers to the Hydra-Shok Deep series: .45 Long Colt and .32 H&R Magnum.

The Hydra-Shok line, which has been part of Federal's catalog since 1989, has earned a reputation for delivering enhanced stopping power for self-defense situations. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach, Federal tailors each Hydra-Shok Deep load specifically to its respective caliber. As the company explains, "The new Personal Defense loads feature cartridge-optimized, controlled-expansion projectiles that provide the perfect balance between expansion size and penetration depth."

Federal's engineering team takes into account that some shooters may use these cartridges in rifles as well as handguns. This consideration is particularly relevant for the .45 Long Colt option, which is popular among lever-action rifle enthusiasts.

"Our Hydra-Shok Deep bullet for the 45 Colt is designed and optimized to work within the limitations of the 45 Colt, from short revolvers to full-length carbine rifles," explains Chris Laack, Federal's product manager for handgun ammunition. "Our Hydra-Shok Deep bullet for 32 H&R supports the launch of several new guns in that cartridge as well as offering a lower recoil option in 327 Federal Magnum chambered revolvers."

Both new additions feature Federal's signature center post design bullet (Hydra-Shok Deep Jacketed Hollow Point) engineered for reliable expansion. Additional quality features include sealed primers, specially formulated powder, and Federal Premium nickel-plated cases.

The technical specifications for the new loads are:

• .45 Long Colt: 210-grain bullet with a velocity of 913 fps from a 6-inch barrel
• .32 H&R Magnum: 85-grain bullet with a velocity of 1025 fps from a 4-inch barrel

Both ammunition options are available in 20-round boxes.
