Defiance Machine has recently unveiled their innovative Deviant Controlled Round Feed (CRF) action, bringing a modern twist to this classic action design. The new offering represents a significant advancement in controlled-feed technology while maintaining the reliability that has made this style popular among specific shooting communities.
Controlled-feed actions have earned dedicated followers in the shooting world for their distinctive feeding mechanism. Unlike push-feed designs that simply push a cartridge into the chamber, controlled-feed actions securely grip the cartridge rim with the extractor throughout the entire feeding process. This crucial difference prevents cartridges from getting misaligned during chamber insertion and eliminates "short stroking" issues that can cause jams when a second round attempts to enter an already occupied chamber. These reliability features make CRF actions particularly valued by dangerous game hunters who cannot afford mechanical failures in high-pressure situations.
What sets the Deviant CRF apart from traditional controlled-feed designs is its versatility. Unlike older CRF actions that could be damaged by single-loading rounds directly into the chamber (forcing the extractor to snap over the cartridge rim), the Deviant CRF specifically addresses this limitation. The action also incorporates a Winchester-style three-position safety system for enhanced operational control.
The Deviant CRF action carries a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $2,995. Customers can select from short, medium, and long action lengths, with both standard and magnum bolt face options available to accommodate various calibers.
According to Defiance Machine: "The Deviant CRF is a controlled round feed action designed with a rotating claw extractor that improves the reliability in feed and cartridge extraction when you need it most. Since the round is controlled throughout the cycling of the bolt, there is a reduced chance for feeding failures. Unlike a traditional CRF, however, this action will allow for a cartridge to be single fed into the chamber as well, if the need arises. We built this action for dangerous game hunters and any shooter that needs to ensure proper feeding and ejecting in the highest stress situations. The Deviant CRF is your ideal action when mechanical failure cannot be an option."
