Czechpoint has introduced a new Military Black configuration of their legendary Cold War-era rifle, bringing authentic military aesthetics to the civilian market.

The vz.58 Legacy: A Cold War Alternative
Back in 1958, when Soviet forces were rolling out the infamous AK-47, Czechoslovakian engineers took a different approach. Rather than copying the Russian design, they developed their own solution: the vz.58 assault rifle. This wasn't merely an imitation—it represented a distinctly Czech engineering philosophy.
While superficially resembling the AK-47, the vz.58 incorporated fundamentally different mechanics. The Czechoslovakian designers opted for a striker-fired, short-stroke gas operating system rather than the AK's traditional long-stroke mechanism. This decision, along with numerous other engineering refinements, set the vz.58 apart from its Soviet counterpart.
Interestingly, despite visual similarities, the magazines between these platforms remain incompatible—a detail that often surprises newcomers to the platform.
From Service Rifle to Civilian Favorite
The vz.58 served as the Czech Republic's primary service weapon until the adoption of the modern Bren 2 system. Slovakia continues to deploy the rifle within their military forces. During the Global War on Terror, the original military vz.58 gained significant popularity among private contractors operating in challenging environments, while simultaneously building a dedicated following among North American civilian shooters.

The New Military Black Specification
This latest offering from Czechpoint faithfully recreates the appearance of the original Czechoslovakian military variant. The rifle features the distinctive "beaver barf" wood furniture that characterized the service rifles, combined with a black-over-phosphate metal finish that provides both durability and authentic military appearance.
Technical Specifications and Features
The Military Black vz.58 maintains the platform's core specifications while incorporating modern manufacturing standards:
Chambering and Action: 7.62x39mm, semi-automatic only (civilian legal)
Receiver Construction: Precision-milled for enhanced accuracy and longevity
Barrel: 16-inch chrome-lined barrel manufactured by renowned German company Lothar Walther
Weight: 6.9 pounds (unloaded)
Optics Ready: Factory drilled and tapped for side-mounted optic rail (rail sold separately)
Market Position and Pricing
With an MSRP of $1,729, this Military Black variant positions itself as one of the most accessible entry points into the vz.58 platform. This competitive pricing makes the rifle attractive to both collectors seeking historical authenticity and shooters looking for a reliable 7.62x39mm platform.
The combination of traditional military aesthetics, modern manufacturing quality, and competitive pricing should appeal to enthusiasts who appreciate the vz.58's unique place in Cold War small arms history.
