NIOA Group has unveiled ambitious plans for a cutting-edge manufacturing facility for its subsidiary Barrett Firearms Manufacturing Inc. in Tennessee. The $76.4 million investment will establish a premier weapons systems production center expected to be operational by early 2027. The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development officially announced the expansion on March 21.

NIOA Group CEO Robert Nioa expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, "We're thrilled to announce the expansion of Barrett's operations in the Murfreesboro region and look forward to the positive impact this project will have on the local economy and beyond." He emphasized that the new Barrett Manufacturing & Technology Campus "will serve as our primary firearms manufacturing site globally and demonstrates our commitment as a major American manufacturer catering to both the commercial and military markets."
According to the official announcement from Tennessee Governor Bill Lee's office, the expansion will create 183 new jobs in Rutherford County. The planned 250,000-square-foot facility at 8808 Manchester Pike will function as Barrett's main global firearms manufacturing location, featuring advanced manufacturing capabilities, corporate offices, and other key operations. Additionally, NIOA Group plans to establish its U.S. headquarters at this location once construction is complete.
Barrett Firearms Manufacturing has deep roots in Tennessee, having been founded in Murfreesboro in 1982. The company was acquired by NIOA, an Australian-headquartered global firearms, weapons, and munitions company based in Brisbane, Queensland, in 2023.
Bryan James, CEO of Barrett Firearms Manufacturing, expressed gratitude to Tennessee officials: "We thank the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development for their vision and for their shared enthusiasm in this growth opportunity in our state. This is a significant investment in growing Barrett's capabilities for the future while underscoring our long-term commitment to the company's Murfreesboro, Tennessee, heartland."
The project represents one of several recent economic development initiatives in Rutherford County. Since 2020, the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development has supported 16 projects in the county, generating approximately 2,600 job commitments and more than $323 million in capital investments.
