Solid entry-level binos that won't break the bank!

Posted by Mike Johnson on Mar 10, 2025

Just wrapped up my first season with the BX-1 Rogues and I'm honestly impressed for the price point! I was worried about going with a more affordable option, but these have definitely exceeded my expectations. The glass is way clearer than you'd expect in this price range. I can glass hillsides for hours without eye strain. No, they're not as sharp as my buddy's $1000+ binos, but for someone just getting into hunting without a trust fund, these are perfect! Build quality feels solid - survived being dropped in mud and rained on during a nasty whitetail hunt. The focus wheel is smooth and easy to adjust even with gloves on. They're lightweight enough that I barely notice them hanging around my neck all day. Only knocking off one star because the eye cups could be better designed - they sometimes fold down when I don't want them to. Also, low light performance is just okay. But for day hunting? These are fantastic for the money. Perfect starter binos that won't make you feel like you cheaped out!

Can't believe these are so affordable

Picked up the BX-1 Rogues for hiking and casual wildlife viewing, and I'm honestly shocked at how good they are for the price! The clarity is impressive - I was watching a group of pronghorn from about 600 yards away and could make out amazing detail. The size and weight are perfect for throwing in my daypack. They don't feel cheap at all - the construction is solid and the rubber coating provides good grip and protection. Used them in light rain without any issues.

Best budget binos you can buy!

After researching for weeks, I took a chance on these Leupold BX-1 Rogues for our family camping and hiking trips, and wow! These are seriously impressive for the price point. The clarity is excellent - spotted a hawk from our campsite that was so far away my husband couldn't even see it with his naked eye. The 10x42 magnification is perfect for wildlife viewing without being too shaky. My 12-year-old uses them without any issues, and the focus adjustment is easy enough that even my 8-year-old can figure it out.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: What is the magnification and objective lens size of the Leupold BX-1 Rogue Binoculars?

A: The Leupold BX-1 Rogue binoculars are available in multiple configurations. The most common models are 8x25mm and 10x42mm. The first number (8x or 10x) refers to the magnification power, while the second number (25mm or 42mm) indicates the diameter of the objective lens.

Q: Are the BX-1 Rogue binoculars waterproof?

A: The BX-1 Rogue binoculars are water resistant but not fully waterproof. They can handle light rain and humid conditions, but are not designed for submersion or use in heavy downpours like some of Leupold's higher-end models.

Q: What is the eye relief and are they suitable for eyeglass wearers?

A: The BX-1 Rogue offers an eye relief of approximately 15-17mm depending on the specific model. This is generally adequate for eyeglass wearers, though not as generous as some premium models. Eyeglass wearers should be able to see the full field of view with proper positioning.

Q: What is the field of view at 1000 yards?

A: The field of view varies by model: the 8x25mm offers approximately 368 feet at 1000 yards, while the 10x42mm provides about 294 feet at 1000 yards. The 8x model provides a wider field of view, making it slightly better for scanning and tracking moving subjects.

Q: What type of prism system do these binoculars use?

A: The BX-1 Rogue binoculars use a Porro prism design with BAK-4 glass. This traditional prism design helps deliver good depth perception and a wide field of view at an affordable price point.

Q: How much do the binoculars weigh?

A: The weight varies by model. The 8x25mm is the lightest at approximately 17.0 ounces (482 grams), while the 10x42mm weighs about 23.6 ounces (669 grams). The compact size and relatively light weight make them comfortable for extended field use.

Q: What is the close focus distance?

A: The close focus distance for the BX-1 Rogue binoculars is approximately 10 feet. This allows for decent viewing of nearby subjects while maintaining versatility for distance viewing.

Q: What warranty does Leupold offer on these binoculars?

A: The BX-1 Rogue binoculars are covered by Leupold's Full Lifetime Guarantee. If they prove to be defective in materials or workmanship, Leupold will repair or replace them at no charge. This warranty is transferable and does not require a warranty card or proof of purchase.
